How to Use Codes on the PCSX2 Emulator
It can be a pain in the arse to use codes on the PCSX2 Emulator. If you are not an expert with computers or are naturally impatient, it will likely prove too complicated. This guide explains how to set up codes in the simplest possible terms. It also identifies the most common errors you might make when trying to get codes to work.
Here’s a quick list of steps that people who prefer this format of information.
1. Get your #CRCGames
2. Locate your PCSX2 Cheat Directory
3. Create a.pnach file containing your game’s CRC#
4. Download OmniConvert v1.0.3
5. Omniconvert can convert your codes into a format that the emulator can understand
6. Use the format I show to add the code to the file.pnach
7. To test your code in game,
First, you need to find out the CRC code for the game that you are playing. This is done by opening your game and then selecting “Misc”, “Show Console” from the PCSX2 Toolbar. The screen below shows the box you will see.
Scroll down through the text until the Game CRC = section is highlighted in the screen shot. This guide refers to Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. The CRC number that you see above is applicable to this game.
Only the last part F4715852 of the CRC number is required. The 0x should not used to create the.pnach files. You can either write this number down, or keep the console open as you search for the PCSX2 Directory. My program is installed automatically by default in Documents. Yours might be in Program Files.

The only directories I’ve ever heard of are:
C: Program Files (x86) > PCSX2 > Cheats
Documents > PCSX2> Cheats
The location of the cheats folder is in My Documents.
Right-click anywhere in the folder to open a menu of options. Select “New” to create a text document. You will probably find this file the only one in your folder. However, the screen shot below shows that there are many other.pnach files within the folder.
This helps me to show you the differences between the two files. As you will notice, the files in this folder include suffixes like.pnach or.txt. You will need to enable these files if you don’t see them on your computer or only in my screen shots. These can be enabled if you are using Windows 10. To do this, go to the upper right corner and select “File Name Extensions”. As you can see in my second screenshot below.
You can also access this option by right-clicking in the folder and choosing “Properties”. You can also go to Control Panel > Appearance & Personalization > Folder Options, and uncheck “Hide extensions from known file types”.
Right-click the Text Document that you have created and rename it according to the CRC number of your game. Change the extension to.pnach. My Dragon Quest VIII file was called F4715852.pnach for the purposes of this guide. Double-click on the file to open.
Below is a screen shot showing the inside of the file. I have added a few cheats and can confirm that they work. Below this screen shot you will see the raw text version. This guide’s other section will be referenced by the screen shot below.

These cheats are not the same as the Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King CodeBreaker codes page. You will need to convert any code found on my website into a RAW format in order to be able to use it.
You can do this in many ways, but the easiest is to use OmniConvert 1.0.3. Download . This download link is safe and secure. I have tested it myself, but you can still scan it for malware or spyware. Don’t trust me blindly. Get used to scanning the download link. Winrar is another free program you can download to extract OmniConvert.
Note: You can also search for OmniConvert 1.0.3 on Google if the download link does not work anymore. It’s easy to share and isn’t too large, so I’m sure you can find it.
OmniConvert 1.0.3 and You
After you have downloaded OmniConvert 1.0.3 with winrar, the next step is to run Omniconvert.exe. This will open the window as shown in the screen shot below. You can choose the type of cheat that you want to put into OmniConvert by going to “Input” or selecting the option you prefer.
This guide uses the CodeBreaker codes from my Dragon Quest8 CodeBreaker Codes Page. I selected the Max Gold code (Max Gold: 2A8B1C65, 05F5E0FF), from my list and placed it in Omniconvert’s left side.
Now, with Input set at CodeBreaker V1+ (and Output set at “Unencrypted> Standard”), it’s time for Convert to convert our Codebreaker code to a RAW/Unencrypted Code. The above screen shot shows that the code changes from 2A8B1C65 (05F5E0FF) to 20409840 (05F5E0FF) after you hit Convert.
Next, we must convert this file to a format that the X2 can understand. Copy the RAW code, then paste it in the.pnach. Scroll down to the previous codes and then copy and paste one into the file. We’ll be using this code for formatting purposes. This code can be deleted after you have formatted your code.
Pay attention to the bolded parts below. You’ll need to format your new cheat in the same manner as this cheat.
Experience Times Two
patch=1,EE,203609D4,extended,8FA2319C
patch=1,EE,203609D8,extended,00021040
You’ll need to convert this: 20409840 HTML5E0FF into:
Max Gold
patch=1,EE,20409840,extended,05F5E0FF
Once your cheat is properly formatted, you can delete the one I instructed you to copy and paste in the file. Now we can test the cheat that we added to the file.pnach and verify it works.
